Businesses have abandoned their ‘why-cloud?’ mantra and are now shifting toward thinking in terms of ‘how do I execute a long-term cloud strategy?’ according to research analysis in the 2014 Future of Cloud Computing Survey, conducted by the North Bridge Partners and Gigaom Research.
In the last three years software as a service (SaaS) has taken a huge leap. With only 13 percent of businesses using SaaS solutions in 2011 to 72 percent using SaaS solutions this year. Part of this dramatic increase is budgetary.
Maintaining current system continues to consume 80 percent IT budgets, and while the short term cost of moving from on premise to the cloud can be huge, the long term savings are attracting more and more businesses as early adopters are showing great success from the move.
Front office operations continue to drive growth in the B2B cloud computing market. Fifty-two percent of survey respondents are using cloud computing for sales and marketing. Forty-four percent are leveraging the cloud for customer service. Business analytics are also being deployed via cloud based solutions by 44 percent of respondents.
Business intelligence remains one of the top reasons organizations are deploying cloud.
